I need to change some text on the screen based on which menu itemis highlighted.

A: Each menu items can include any html code.
So, you can include your own objects with onmouseover event, forexample:

  var menuItems = [

];

Where yourFunc() is Javascript function.



Q: I now have the need to introduce separators on the menu.
Can you tell me how to do that?
I cannot find any documentation telling me how this is done.

A: You can try to use Deluxe Menu - this is a newer version of DHTMLMenu. You can use the following parameters there:

You can try to use API functions in that case:

function dm_ext_changeItemVisibility (menuInd, submenuInd, itemInd, visibility)

To disable items you should set the target parameter to "_".

You can try to use the following function

function disable()
{
dm_ext_changeItem(0, 1, 1, ["", "", "", "", "", "_"]);

}

to disable your items.
