You can try to use API functions in that case:

function dm_ext_changeItemVisibility (menuInd, submenuInd, itemInd, visibility)

To disable items you should set the target parameter to "_".

You can try to use the following function

Q: We are looking at JavaScript libraries for our website, and we liked what we saw with your product deluxe-tabs. A: See, to create vertical tabs you should add '$' symbol before the itemtext in the first item of the next row.
