A: You should use the following parameter
  var itemTarget = "_self";

Please, see also individual items targets, for example:

Change "_blank" to "" or to "_self".


Q: How can I keep the already opened node open in simple tree view, when you expand another node.

A: Please set the following parameters:

  var tcloseExpanded=0;
  var tcloseExpandedXP=0;




Q: If   var bselectedSmItem= anything other than 0, the dropdown menu maken links do not work and I get the following error:

A: Unfortunately, you can't assign onmouseover/onClick/onContextMenu event to each item.
However, you can achieve this by using standard html objects within javascript drop down menu items, for example:
