Javascript Menu. DHTML Menu.

  • Create contextual menus for your pages. For this purpose you should assign a special function for the object you want. The current coordinates of the mouse pointer or your own ones can be used for the contextual menu.
  • When the submenu is larger than the visible area of the page the submenu will be automatically decreased. To see all the submenu items you do not need to use scrollbars or something like that - just put your mouse to the bottom of a submenu and it will be automatically scrolled! You can also specify height and width for each separate submenu.
  • Build menus completely based on Cascading Style Sheets. It is possible to appoint the individual CSS styles for separate elements of the menu.

Q: I came across your program through a link on the Internet. The menu script displayed was DHTML Menu Demo #23 displayed on
http://dhtml-menu.com/dhtml-samples/menu2752.html

- this is the only menu I am interested in as it has the capability of positioning the menu script relative to an existing table in the HTML coding of the page. I already have a vertical scrolling menu with several features visitors. We are moving our website to our own server and are doing some updating to make it more attractive when viewed at different resolutions. If you look at the source coding for the page (yes, it's almost exclusively in HTML - it usually views well on any browser) you will see that ALL the content is enclosed in a table which is centered on the page allowing it to be completely viewed at any resolution of 800 x 600 or greater. But the scripting I'm using ( /* Created by Randy Bennet...) uses the left margin of the browser window as left margin of the page. If it could be written so that the left margin of the existing (and centered in the browser window) table would be the point from which the left corner of the "object1" was measured, then the page would view nicely at any resolution. But I cannot find out how to do this from your "newer version".

A: You can create the same menu using Deluxe Menu:
http://dhtml-menu.com/dhtml-samples/menu2752.html

To install Deluxe Menu in the table cell with center alignment youshould use relative position for the menu:

  var absolutePos=0;
  var posX="0px";
  var posY="0px";

And install it on your page in the following way:

<table>
<tr>
<td align="center">
<script type="text/javascript" src="deluxe-menu.js"></script>
</td>
</tr>
</table>

Q: Hi, how to change font/size of the main java script pull down menu?
I see the option only for the sub menus.

A: I suppose that you're using Vista style template.

You should change font for the top items in Individual styles.Try that.

Q: Drop Down Menu could be the best solution for my website ... but Ihave one important question: I've seen, that it's possible to open the javascript change menu linked contents in the same or in a new window or in a frame ... but is it possible, too, to generate a new tab? To open a new window often is not possible, because most users have popup-blockers installed. And to open the contents in the same window drives the user away from the main page! Open a new tab seems to be less risky ... is there any solution to be used with Drop Down Menu? I tried to use "_tab" instead of "_self" or "_parent", but it did not work!

A: You should use _blank. If your browser supports tabs your link will beopened in a new tab (except IE, in IE it will be opened in a newwindow).

Q: Can I use javascript to get the object (getElementByID). If not howdo I hide my dropdown menu on print?

A: You can add a new button to print your page and call onClick event, soyou should write:
<body ....
onClick="document.getElementById('dm0m0').style.visibility='hidden'; window.print();">
...
</body>
Or you can use the same javascript code from your menu item.

For example:
  var menuItems = [
["Print", "javascript:document.getElementById('dm0m0').style.visibility='hidden';
window.print();", icon1, icon2],
];
But if you want to hide the menu when your customers push "File/Print"you should write so:
You must create two functions, for example:

function myprint()
{ document.getElementById('dm0m0').style.visibility='hidden';
window.print();
}
function myprint2()
{ document.getElementById('dm0m0').style.visibility='visible';
window.print();
}
You should add this functions into your code.

And then you must write so:

window.onbeforeprint = myprint;
window.onafterprint = myprint2;
